Camerons Green Wash Speech

David Cameron has listed five ways in which consumers in the UK can help the country achieve its low carbon targets. Is this news or just another bout of Green Wash?

In a speech to the Sustainable Consumption Institute conference, the Tory leader said that transparency and going against human nature are possible approaches towards launching a 'green consumer revolution'.

This is old hat and nothing that hasn't already been said by thousands of people in high places.

Other ways to achieve this goal include offering the "right" incentives, being realistic in setting goals and targets and encouraging sustainability through profit motives.

And? There are no incentives already in place? The LCBPII funding rounds provides 50% of the total cost of installing renewable engery which is paid indirectly through taxes so why are the public not aware of reducing carbon that they are paying for 'twice'!

Mr Cameron also announced plans to set up a working group on environmental issues, which is to be led by shadow energy minister Greg Barker.

The leader of the opposition said: "My message to you today is one of optimism tinged with urgency. Yes, our resources are low. Yes, our planet is in peril. And yes, the alternative to action doesn't bear thinking about.

Planet in peril? No way? surely not? Is this the firsdt we have heard of this? Actually no, the entire world has been broadly brush stroked by leading authorities for well over 20 years so Mr Cameron is jumping on a big band wagon. All talk and no action as usual.

"But look at what's on our side. Businesses that can make a difference. Consumers who want to make a difference. And a Conservative Party who wants to help both make that difference."

We'll shall see.
