British Architects have always grasped the nettle when it comes to innovation and world class design and engineering solutions.

Inspired by different cultures and natural materials our built surrounds are again starting to evolve into a new era of enlightenment.

A combination of technology, awareness of natures forces and the capability of human distruction. Always aiming for the best of the best without cutting any corners. Cut corners and nature will turn around and bite our ass. One only need to look at the devastation that ocurred following the earth in China.

The catostrophy in China was not the natural event of the earth quake itself but the shoddy construction of the buidlings that crumbled to the ground. A lesson that teaches us not to consider the force of nature.

New challenges have been jumping up and down in front of us ever since we started to burn the natural minerals that could be argues are best left in the ground! However, dig them up and burn them we do. After all if we didn't where would we be today as a species. Our human desire to understand our origin drives us forward at an ever increasing pace. Leaving the waste behind only to have to deal wit it at a future date. That date is now here.

In every sense 2009 was a year the world stepped back and looked at the damage we've collectively caused. Our thirst for progressing is destroying the planet. For every good cause (made apparent) there are 6 reasons that go against the grain for the action in the first place.

What is it we (humans) are seeking to achieve? Who really cares? Building the tallest building on planet earth on sand must surely take first prize for lunacy.

How long we take to step back before marching forward is the question.

Building the future living environment should not be taken lightly. The expensive renewable energy is delaying the inevitable fact that we have to install it to reduce CO2. Regardless of energy saving measures our desire to use electrical appliances is growing not shrinking. At the heart of the worlds economy is the manufacturing of electrical components. Who can design and build a dwelling that has no electrics and be confident it will sell?

Future education involves hi end digital screens and computers not black boards. No matter how much insulation in used to build the school the energy will still be needed to fire up all the appliances.

The new decade has begun and 2010 - 2020 remains to be a mystery. A spec in the universe may just become a spec without life, the irony is there will be no left to blame.
